A day in your life as a Building Engineer Under the direction of the Engineering Manager and with the guidance of the Senior Building Engineer, this position is responsible for maintaining building systems/equipment at the assigned Bank of Hawaii facility. If applicable or appropriate, assists in business unit s compliance with applicable laws, regulations, regulatory requirements and Bank policies and procedures, including but not limited to those related to Fair Banking, Anti-Money Laundering laws and regulations, Bank Secrecy Act and USA PATRIOT Act. We ll give you these important responsibilities Assumes primary responsibility for operating and maintaining the major building HVAC, electrical, lighting and plumbing systems throughout the facility. Manages minor capital projects as assigned. Performs or assigns in-house or contract technicians the preventive and repair maintenance on these major systems. Monitors to ensure delegated tasks have been done appropriately and completely. Oversees and trains assigned on-site maintenance team, to ensure they are fully knowledgeable and qualified on building systems, and able to respond effectively during emergencies or in the absence of a supervisor. Instructs and supervises assigned maintenance technicians in the execution of all security and safety procedures and in the operation of related building systems. Monitors work orders daily, directs work as needed to resolve work orders, and provides feedback to occupants/requestors as to status of work and scheduled preventive maintenance. Works with Contract Specialists and the Senior Building Engineer to have adequate service contracts and supplier vendor contracts in place to support all building maintenance operations, including routine preventive maintenance and anticipated repair supplies. Maintains all assigned building maintenance reports and logs, and government and regulatory inspection records for the facility. Ensures that all such records are copied to the Corporate Facilities office. Performs all other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned. Qualifications if you come to us with these qualifications Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D. from an accredited institution, or equivalent work experience. Experience: Minimum 5 years of facilities maintenance, repair, or general construction experience. Strong understanding of and experience in basic carpentry, plumbing, HVAC and electrical knowledge and repair skills. Project Management certification is preferred. In addition a minimum of 1 2 years of supervisory or managerial experience is required. Technical Skills: Demonstrated proficiency with personal computers and Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint) or similar software. Knowledge of and the ability to use Bank software and systems. Other Job Qualifications: Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills. Must be analytical, detail oriented, organized. Able to meet demanding deadlines and handle multiple priorities. Effective and efficient team player with excellent interpersonal skills, who can also resolve problems independently. Should be able to analyze complex situations quickly and identify solutions and alternatives. Must be flexible, able to work on multiple projects that may require restructuring due to shifting demands, unforeseen events and changing priorities. Must be able to work flexible hours including holidays, weekends and evenings as needed. Off island travel may be required. Must be able to safely climb a ladder and bend under desks and behind equipment to check for electrical wiring, etc. Must be able to move materials up to 30 lbs. in weight.
