A day in your life as a Compliance Officer
Under the direction of the Chief Fiduciary Officer, this position is part of the team responsible for administering the regulatory compliance and operational risk management program for the Trust Services Group (TSG) and the Asset Management Group (AMG). Assists Chief Fiduciary Officer, Fiduciary and Investment Compliance and Risk Management (FICRM) Manager and Assistant Manager with ensuring compliance in all BOH fiduciary areas with applicable laws, regulations, regulatory requirements, and Bank and department policies and procedures, including but not limited to those related to Fair Banking, Anti-Money Laundering laws and regulations, Bank Secrecy Act and USA PATRIOT Act.
We'll give you these important responsibilities?
* FICRM Compliance Program for TSG and AMG - Participates in design, administration, and evaluation of the FICRM Compliance and Risk Management Program for TSG and AMG. Provides management and oversight for the TSG business units in executing their risk control matrix monitoring. Plans, develops, and conducts compliance and operational risk assessments. Performs compliance and operational risk monitoring and testing for the TSG, AMG and Corporate Compliance risk control matrices. Performs reviews necessary for other fiduciary areas submitting compliance monitoring within the Fiduciary Risk Manager Application (BISI, Bankoh Advisors). Participates in FICRM Quality Assurance Reviews, including development of testing parameters, scope, and exam processes/procedures; completes detailed testing with complete work-papers; reports to management with detailed findings and recommendations, coordinates and/or assists in the resolution of business unit and examiners/auditors issues. Participates in
task forces as required.
* Compliance Oversight/Training to TSG and AMG - Provides compliance management and oversight to the TSG and AMG business units in the design of policies and procedures to control fiduciary and investment risk and comply with relevant state and federal laws, regulations and case law affecting Bank of Hawaii fiduciary accounts including but not limited to ERISA; Internal Revenue Code; Bank Secrecy Act; Title 12 Code of Federal Regulations Parts 9 and 12; federal securities laws including the Investment Advisors Act of 1940 and the Investment Company Act of 1940; and Hawaii statutes, regulations and case law. Plans, develops, implements and maintains fiduciary compliance and operational training for TSG business units, compliance liaisons and staff members, as well as the development and maintenance of applicable policies and procedures covering fiduciary activities.
* Compliance Competency - Analyzes and evaluates wide range of information to maintain high level of competency regarding regulatory and legal compliance requirements, best practices, industry and regulatory trends and management oversight reporting requirements. Reviews business unit monitoring and internal audit and regulatory examination reports and identifies key laws, regulations and risks impacting responsible areas and develops and executes compliance plans, policies, procedures, contracts and agreements to address issues.
* Facilitation of Examinations and Audits - Assists with facilitating TSG and AMG examinations from state and federal regulatory examiners, Fund Compliance Officers, and Internal Auditors, including advance preparation and coordination of all information between Bank departments and examiners. Participates in and follows up with management, staff and examiners/auditors on findings, including development of written responses to examination issues and corrective action.
* Reporting - Prepares and presents various compliance reports to management and Board and management committees ranging from summaries of key laws and regulations, to analysis of data regarding trends, risks and compliance and monitoring report findings and makes recommendations regarding same.
* Performs all other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education:
* Bachelor's degree from accredited institution with major in business, finance, accounting or economics, or equivalent work experience.
* Certification in Compliance and Risk Management preferred.
Experience:
* Minimum 6 years of work experience in positions of increasing responsibility working with ERISA / fiduciary law and regulations; compliance with general securities law and regulations or equivalent work experience to include management experience.
* Banking/financial services compliance experience strongly preferred.
* Must demonstrate strong fundamental knowledge of bank / fiduciary regulatory and financial institution compliance laws and regulations, especially in the area of ERISA.
Technical Skills:
* Demonstrated proficiency and expertise with personal computers and Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, MS Access and PowerPoint) or similar software.
* Knowledge of or ability to use bank software and systems, including financial software.
Other Job Qualifications:
* Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
* Must be analytical, detail oriented, organized.
* Must be able to meet deadlines and handle multiple priorities.
* Able to work both independently and with others in an effective manner, often under pressure, while exercising prudent judgement and critical thinking.
