DIRECTOR OF CHAPTERS


The Director of Chapters stewards and grows the NYCLUs statewide presence and manages and supports chapter and regional offices throughout New York State, and fosters communications among these offices and other NYCLU departments. The Direct of Chapters supervises chapter and regional directors. They coordinate across departments to ensure that the work of statewide staff reflects and replicates the mission and informs priorities of the NYCLU across the State.


The Director is a member of the NYCLU management team and reports to the Program Director.



ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Fosters a statewide presence in support of the NYCLUs strategic priorities relating to organizing, legislation, and litigation


Supervises chapter and regional directors in geographically dispersed offices



Supports chapter and regional directors in the supervision of other chapter/regional staff


Identifies emerging civil liberties and civil rights issues with potential for statewide advocacy campaign and/or impact litigation



Provides support and resources to chapters and regional offices, and collaborates with other NYCLU leaders, to build an impactful base in their communities and to ensure that such local work is part of an integrated statewide agenda grounded in NYLCU strategic priorities.


Works collaboratively with the chapter and regional offices and other NYLCU departments to develop/implement/evaluate effective integrated and intersectional campaigns


Ensures NYCLUs priorities, programs, and projects in multiple departments are coordinated with chapter and regional staff by building and facilitating communication across the organization


Fosters the professional development of chapter and regional staff, including by performing performance evaluations and creating professional development planning, and organizing and leading an annual statewide staff conference and chapter evaluation/strategic planning retreat


Administers the chapter intern fund and other chapter administrative projects


Plans, monitors, tracks, and approves chapter budgeting and spending


Actively supports the NYCLUs internal and external commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion



IDEAL CANDIDATE


The ideal candidate for this position possesses a proactive, energetic, multi-tasking work temperament with a passion for, knowledge of, and demonstrated commitment to civil liberties and civil rights issues. They will have excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills including active listening and public speaking ability in groups and one-on-one.



They will have: nonprofit management experience, including staff supervision and volunteer cultivation; demonstrated skills in grasstops and grassroots community organizing; and campaign planning/ execution/evaluation experience, including leadership on legislative advocacy/policy/impact litigation work. They will have experience in building strong working relationships and a culture that embodies diversity, equity, and inclusion. An advanced degree in a relevant field, fluency in a language in addition to English, and proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, and Skype are a plus.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Bachelors Degree or equivalent


Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas:


? Community organizing


? Legislative advocacy, lobbying, or government relations


? Law or public policy


? Campaign or strategic planning


Expertise in one or more civil liberties/civil rights issue areas (e.g., racial justice, First Amendment, privacy rights, criminal justice, reproductive rights, LGBTQ rights, immigration reform, student rights) and understanding of challenges facing immigrant communities, communities of color, and low-and moderate-income families


Experience working across departments or teams within an organization


Experience managing significant programs and projects


Results focused and organized


Experience in managing, mentoring, and motivating staff



OTHER SPECIALIZED JOB REQUIREMENTS:


Must have a valid drivers license and consistent access to a vehicle


Willing and available to work occasional weekends and/or evenings


Available for frequent travel, including regular travel to chapter and regional offices
